The interview was conducted in Riyadh by: Said Sherbash.
Major General Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Rahman al-Ubaid, owner of the “Al-Liwa” stud in the city of Riyadh, who had a journey and a rich experience in horse breeding that spanned for about 28 years, and one of the most important figures interested in the history and breeding of the Egyptian horse in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, confirmed that his message towards Egyptian horses was to convince breeders of the Egyptian horse, He pointed out that shows and prizes were organized for this purpose, saying, “Indeed, many breeders were convinced and switched to raising the Egyptian horse.”
In his interview with the “Al-Khail” website, Al-Obaid advised new breeders, saying: “Raising horses is expensive and a special budget must be set for them,” explaining that his interest in horses is focused on strong bodies, structures, legs, and then the head, stressing that the true features of the horse are movement and strength. And to the text of the dialogue.
How did your story with the horse begin?
My journey began with the Egyptian horses, before I traveled to Britain for school, and my goal was clearly to have a purebred Arabian horse like the ancient knights, and to learn equestrianism. Indeed, I did horse riding, which made me constantly in contact with the horse and learn about its forms, as well as the breeders in Britain.
I bought a group of horses in Britain, and I was also collected by chance with Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Khaled in 1992 during the “Marvon” championship, which is the place designated for the Arabian horse show in Paris. I learned from Bin Khaled many things about Arabian horses, and then met with the famous American breeder Mrs. Judy Forbes asked me what horses I raised, and I answered my breed, “Thoroughbred.”
She advised me to raise pure purebred Arabian horses, and read the book “The Classic Arabian”, in order to enter the world of Egyptian horses afterwards, and then I bought a mare of a girl. K Sennari and a horse, its origins go back to the stables of Sheikh Obeid, which was established by Lady You Planet in Egypt. A group of horse breeders whose origins go back to the stables of Sheikh Obaid is still in America, and my horses have been present for 4 years in Britain, including the “Mix Horse”, I later transferred it to Saudi Arabia, and then I bought “Assaf Al Shaqab,” who won the Kingdom’s championship in 1999, and I also bought “Wadia” Bint Safir and Determination, which goes back to the horses of Al Zahraa Station, whose production is still in my stud until now.
How would you describe the “nineties” stage in horse breeding?
At this stage there were great leaders of the Egyptian horse, they had wealth and spent on the hobby they loved and were not waiting for a return from it, and in America, for example, there was a group of wealthy breeders who had influence and had a culture of love and possession of horses and interest in its development, and therefore every Gulf breeder went to America during a period The nineties and even the early 2000s, and bought their horses from there, and when these stalls ended, the light went away from the Egyptian horse.
Egyptian horses do not exceed 5%, and the new breeder in the field wants to buy complete and beautiful horses, and Egyptian horses do not sell their horses, and during this stage I traveled to America to attend the “Egyptian Event” and this stage was characterized by sophistication, during which I collected many books.
I remember that a friend asked me to buy an Egyptian mare for him, so I reached out to one of the breeders and offered him $ 2 million for a mare, and he refused to sell it. Egyptian horses do not sell their horses easily, and when the new breeder decides to buy the distinguished horse and finds its owners not selling it, he goes to buy the horse. Being available and available, including many beautiful horses, knowing that the mixed horse in Poland, Britain and Russia had a role in the nineties, so “the two forms and Ibn Shakir al-Masri” are the ones who developed the Polish horse.
And the distinctive shapes that were called “Golden Cross” appeared, and the Al Shaqab gazelle came and changed the genes, so that the hero Badrun Seki you find is referred to in more than one line.
What about the Egyptian horse in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ..?
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the origin of the horses, and the Egyptian horses have been returning to the Kingdom for nearly 180 years in its new robe, for the Kingdom is the last country that was unified on horseback, and may God have mercy on His Majesty King Abdulaziz, his sons and their men, and the Egyptian horse is in the Kingdom, and whoever loves the Egyptian horse He can’t find sites that talk about him or a published culture for him.
What is your evaluation of the prizes presented in the Arabian horse races ..?
Looking at the horse races “Throbride”, we find the value of its prizes is 40 million riyals, while the beauty contests for the Arabian horse do not exceed a million or two million riyals, and we find that many have a conviction that the horse “Wahoo” is an Arab horse, and I discussed many of them, and I explained It is to them that the “Wahoo” is the Saudi ID card obtained by Al-Qubaili and others.
What about the current acquisition by breeders of Egyptian horses?
The non-spread of the Egyptian horse and the lack of its numbers affected people’s acquisition of it, and made them head in other directions, and there is another matter that affects the Egyptian horse acquisition process, which is the failure to organize special tournaments for the Egyptian horse, while when looking at the Egyptian horse in Kuwait, America and Europe, it organizes special tournaments for it, In Egypt, all championships are organized for the Egyptian horse, but in Saudi Arabia, only one championship is organized for Egyptian horses, which were held for the first time last year and a wonderful effort was made.
We believe that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the origin of the Egyptian horse, according to what Abbas Pasha’s manuscript has shown, and what is fixed and dated in many books. Horses are measured in proportion and proportion, for example, my horse achieved ranks on the Max horses, but if we look at the percentage of the Bolsh and the proportion of the Egyptian, we find The percentage of 95% of the horses is polish, and this is what makes the Polish horse visible, and is it possible to hear the sound of competition when a number of 2000 polish horses compete with 5 Egyptian horses .. Certainly not, however, the Egyptian horse won many prizes and also outperformed the Polish champions.
The Egyptian horse, Imperial Barz, outperformed Marawan Al Shaqab in the Khaldiya championship in Saudi Arabia, and the horse Ansata Bin Sudan won the American championship, and the mare “Serenity Sunbulah” reaped “Sabrin Champaign” in America, and despite the large number of horses, the Egyptian horse is still proving its existence, In addition, the Egyptian horse breeders’ lack of interest in participating in tournaments and their preference to be satisfied with looking at their horses on their farms is another reason for this.
What is your ambition for the “Liwa” horses in the future ..?
It is not possible to define a complete and clear vision to answer the question of how would you like your horse? Because there are several elements such as time, money and other interests, you may have a lot of money but you do not have enough time to pursue them, and I like to care about strong bodies, structures, legs, and then the head, so the true features of a horse are movement and strength.
How satisfied are you with your education program ..?
In my personal conviction that the mare that I chose for the breeding program, I was successful in choosing it. There is no fixed image of the Arabian horse. Even “Karl Raswan” gave different characteristics to the sailorites, hamdanids, and fringes, just as the Arab tribes had a different view of the horse, so its view was different from the goat. And the Arsans were also spread differently among the tribes from the present time.
And when Karl Raswan wrote about the horses, he used to distinguish them, but now the matter is different, so we cannot find anyone who can distinguish the saqlawi halter from the fringed halter, as the lustful rage has become all saqlawi, and the Arabs attribute the halter to the mother, even though they were abroad ascribing the halter to the father.
What are the sweetest things that you prefer to use in your program ..?
I like to use “Ashhal Al Rayyan”, “Sinan Al Rayyan” and “Hijazi”, which I see as a complete horse with wide eyes and a strong, balanced body, while I saw a horse named Muhammad Saden, his father on what I think Al Hilali I wished to produce from.
When did you transfer your horse from Britain to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?
I transferred my horses to the Kingdom in 1995, and I started breeding Egyptian horses in the year 1993, so I have exceeded 23 years in the field of horse breeding.
The Lewi Stud message ..
The Lewy Stud has a message towards the Egyptian horses, to the effect of convincing the breeders of the Egyptian horse. Indeed, many of them were convinced and switched to raising the Egyptian horse, and in one of the periods for a period of 4 years, shows were organized and prizes were given in order to spread my message.
Have you read horse books, and what do you prefer from them ..?
The first books I read by “Arab Horse”, which talks about the purebred Arabian horse, then the book “The Classic Arabian” and “Osintec Arabian” in the first and second parts, and the book of Al-Aseel Club, which carries beautiful excerpts about horses, and “Karl Raswan”, and ” Hans Nagel Hanan, in addition to Dr. Ahmed Mabrouk, who talked about his trip to Saudi Arabia.
What do you recommend for new breeders ..?
I advise new breeders to deduct a special budget for horses, as breeding is expensive and needs a rich person who can deduct a special budget for it.
