Narrated Jarir bin Abdullah – may God be pleased with him – he said: I saw the Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – twisting the forelock of a horse with his finger, and he said: “The horses are tied to their forelocks with goodness until the Day of Resurrection: reward and booty.” Narrated by Muslim and An-Nasa’i.
In this hadith, the Messenger – may God bless him and grant him peace – calls for horses, to twist his forelock with his finger, as it is from mercy, and it also increases the love of horses for his owner.
Twist: turn and twist the corner of a horse with his finger. The forelock is the hair running on the horse’s forehead, and it is one of the signs of its beauty, and the Messenger – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – did that when he said: “The horses are tied in their foreheads with goodness until the Day of Resurrection.”
What is meant is that good is tied to its forelocks and is attached to it, as if it is tied and knotted in it, and the hadith clarified the good here that it is the reward (i.e. the reward and good deeds from God on the day that he receives it), and the booty (that is, what the fighter in the way of God earns from the enemy in this world), and he indicated that this goodness Until the Day of Resurrection, i.e., until it is near.
