On the authority of Abu Wahb al-Hashmi, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Tie the horses, and wipe their forelocks and backs – or he said: their tails – and imitate them, and do not imitate the strings.”
was told by Abo Dawood and AlNasaee. And in Ahmad’s narration on the authority of Jaber, with a chain of transmission traceable back to the Prophet: “The horses are tied to their forelocks for goodness and the Nile until the Day of Resurrection. And do not imitate it with strings.”
It was included by Al-Tahawi in “Mushkil Al-Athar” and Ahmad, and Al-Tabarani in Al-Awsat. And its chain of transmission is good.
What is meant by “connected with horses”: get them, own them, and prepare them for the conquest. Wiping it: cleaning it, so that the horse feels amiable with its owner.
From this hadith, it becomes clear to us the reward of wiping a horse’s forelock, back, and inability, and praying for blessing for it, just as it becomes clear that hanging strings on horses for fear of envy is forbidden by Sharia.
